Patriot of the Month Announcement: Gene Burden
The Nashville Distillery is proud to honor Gene Burden as our Patriot of the Month—a man whose life reflects an extraordinary commitment to service, leadership, and community.
Gene Burden began his service to our nation in the United States Air Force, where he held the rank of Airman Second Class (A2C). This rank, used between 1952 and 1967 before being redesignated as Airman First Class, represents an important chapter in Air Force history—and in Gene’s early dedication to serving his country.
Following his military service, Gene devoted himself to protecting and serving his local community. He spent an incredible 38 years in law enforcement, including 32 years as Chief of Police with the Warrensburg, Missouri Police Department. Over the course of his distinguished career, Gene became known not only for his leadership, but also for mentoring and hiring officers who would go on to have long and respected careers of their own.
As a retired police officer, Gene Burden leaves behind a legacy defined by integrity, dedication, and lasting impact. His contributions have been formally recognized, including acknowledgment in January 2023 by incoming Warrensburg Police Chief Andy Munsterman, who honored him among the department’s former chiefs.
Gene’s place in the history of the department is further cemented through his appearance in mid-20th century historical photographs, as noted by the Johnson County Missouri Historical Society—serving as a visual reminder of decades of service and commitment.
Those 32 years as Chief of Police in Missouri makes him the second longest tenured Chief in Missouri history.
Even today, many still refer to him simply as “Chief”—a testament to the lasting respect and impact of his leadership.
Please join us in congratulating Gene Burden, our Patriot of the Month. His legacy of service continues to inspire us all.
